Things seems to be changing rapidly when it comes to social media. For example, there was a time that the platform that got the most video views was Youtube. For years, if you wanted to watch a video, you would go on youtube and search it up. Things have changed and we need to be keeping up the trend, we need to see which platforms are good with what and the advantages that they have over one another. Now in 2019, more people see videos on Facebook than they see on Youtube. It's amazing how a Social Media page can get more video views over a platform that specifically designed for video views.
With over 7 billion people in the world and counting, more than half the world has a social media account. 20 years ago this was not the case, no where even near that number. Myspace at it's peak almost had 78 million users, which at the time was a lot. The circumstances then where a lot different then they are now. Computers where expensive at the time and people couldn't afford them as much as today. Another thing was internet access, it was expensive and harder to get than it is today. With companies launches new products every year, the previous models seem to be getting cheaper. Even the cheapest phones in the market today have the capability to have internet access. That means it's only going to be a few years from now until everybody in the world has access to a smart phone. Once the world leads to that, you will see that everybody will have a social media account. That means we will have over 7 billion people on social media on a daily basis.
Magazines, Billboards, Commercials, and other marketing techniques will be outdated. The reason I say this is because with everybody on there phones, they're less likely to pay attention to their surroundings. Passengers will be on their phones while driving around, and even though it's not safe or legal, the drivers will be on there phone whenever they can. That means billboards or any signs will be less likely to be noticed. With companies like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc. People will not be seeing commercials s much because everyone hates commercials when they're so into their show. These companies take those ads away, with a fee that's 1/10 of cable pricing. The only thing keeping commercials alive are events that are live, but even at that there's companies that are streaming live events on their platform.
With that being said, knowing a prediction on how the world will be inevitably about a decade from now, the best thing we can do is use it to our advantage. Learn how to use it now and start building an audience so that you won't be lost in the future. Make it so that social media will not be what makes or breaks your company.
